International Association of Mediterranean Independent Producers
|
The International Association of Independent Producers
of the Mediterranean (APIMED) was founded in the French city of Montpellier
in 1997 and today is gathering more than 400 television and film producers
of the Mediterranean area.
APIMED's main aim is to contribute to preserve all cultures if the Mediterranean
area and to promote their diversity in the audiovisual industry. We defend,
manage and represent our members and their business interests with regard
to the audiovisual production sector and the public and private entities.
The association gathers independent producers and the main producer's
associations from countries like: Algeria, Egypt, France, Greece, Lebanon,
Israel, Italy, Morocco, Palestine, Spain, Syria, Tunisia and Turkey.
APIMED moved its Central Office to Barcelona in 1999, thanks to an invitation
from the European Institute of the Mediterranean (IEMED). The IEMED is
giving support and assistance to an initiative that pretends to create
new links between both shores of the Mediterranean, something that this
institution has been working on since its creation in 1989. APIMED chose
Barcelona because the city has a great number of audiovisual companies
that give their services to the industry since many years, for the influence
of the Catalan Producers Association (PAC) and the support given by the
local public institutions, such as the Catalan Government.
APIMED has permanent relations with the MEDIA Programme of the EU, the
Institute of Cinematography and the Audiovisual Arts (ICAA), the Catalan
Institute of Cultural Industries (ICIC) , Co.Pe.A.M., Televisió de Catalunya,
(TVC), EGEDA and FILMTEL.

The euro-mediterranean market MEDIMED that we organise in Sitges with
the support of the European Union and the Catalan Government among other
Spanish institutions, has been a great success. Knowing their will of
making possible a place for dialogue and partnership between Europe and
the Southern Mediterranean countries, we believe that the year 2003 will
be the year for new financial aids and a new view of Euromed Audiovisuel.
MEDIMED 2003 will celebrate its 4th edition of the market, which is already
well known and considered by the European and Mediterranean networks.
TEMPUS PROGRAMME
APIMED is aware of the different levels of preparation of the professionals
of both shores of the Mediterranean. Therefor during 2003 and for the
first time APIMED will focus on training professionals. APIMED is involved
together with the Institut d'Educació Contínua of the University Pompeu
Fabra and the University of Alger in a project submitted to the TEMPUS
Programme of the EU, which will be most probably take place in 2003.
MEDITERRANEAN FILM WEEK
APIMED is willing to let the audiences know the recent films and documentaries
from both shores of the Mediterranean. We are currently preparing a retrospective
of Mediterranean Cinema that will take place in Barcelona in July 2003.
REPORTS/STUDIES
APIMED has already made a report about the Euro-Mediterranean Audiovisual
that was made public by the Spanish Ministry of Culture during the Spanish
Presidency of the EU. We are about to publish the conclusions of the round-table
discussion: "Co-production of TV Movies within Europe and the Mediterranean"
taht we organised in the context of MEDIMED 2002. We will soon distribute
it free of charge to all APIMED members. In the forthcoming months we
will present together with the University Pompeu Fabra and the European
Institute of the Mediterranean a project to study the Mediterranean audiovisual
operators that will be supported financially by public institutions.
